En este trabajo se intenta un acercamiento al tema de la libertad en el pensamiento de Joseph Ratzinger, de acuerdo con su análisis histórico: primero se estudia cómo se ha entendido la libertad en la Biblia y en la fe cristiana; después, se expone el peculiar concepto de libertad que se formó en la Ilustración y que aún hoy sigue modelando el pensar de las mayorías. Al final se presenta la propuesta del teólogo alemán sobre la necesidad de recuperar el valor de la relación metafísica entre libertad y verdad.

In this article, the author examines the subject of freedom in the thinking of Joseph Ratzinger, based on a historical analysis. He begins with a look at how freedom is understood in the Bible and in the Christian faith, then considers the particular concept of freedom that was formed during the Enlightenment and continues to mold the way most people think. The article ends with the German theologian’s proposal on the need to rescue to value of the metaphysical relationship between freedom and truth.
