[EN] The aim of this essay is to analyse the presence and intervention of the Soviet Union in the Spanish Civil War, and, moreover, dismantle some myths which have been created about this historical event. In order to do that, this enquiry tries to review the relationship maintained by both governments, from the first contacts in 1933 to the total cessation of the Soviet aid at the beginning of 1939. The purpose of this paper, thus, is double. On one hand, to quantify the assistance given to the Spanish Republic by Stalin and the intentions of the Soviet leader. On the other hand, to expose the later manipulations of those events and the political intention behind them. In conclusion, this essay intends to carry out an assessment regarding the consequences of the Soviet intervention, not only during the conflict, but also after it.

[ES] El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la presencia e intervención de la Unión Soviética en la Guerra Civil española, y, de paso, desmontar algunos mitos construidos en torno a este episodio histórico. Para ello se pretende revisar la relación mantenida por ambos gobiernos desde los primeros contactos establecidos en 1933 hasta el cese total de la ayuda soviética a comienzos de 1939. El propósito final es, por tanto, doble. Por un lado, cuantificar la ayuda suministrada a la República Española por Stalin y las intenciones que movieron al líder soviético; por otro, exponer la posterior manipulación de aquellos sucesos y la intencionalidad política que había detrás. En definitiva, se busca realizar un balance sobre las consecuencias de la intervención soviética no solo durante el conflicto, sino también después de este.
