Traducción y literatura chicana: Miguel Méndez traducido

Abstract

[EN] This contribution focuses on the role of translation (Spanish-English) in the United States of America cultural scene, in relation to the literary production of Miguel Méndez Morales, a chicano author writing in Spanish, in a cultural scene dominated by English. Enquiring about how the work of Morales has been translated into English, leads to a consideration of the target publishing context which affects the selection of works that are translated or the publishing houses and language of translation, and the underlying motives for such choices. The heterogeneity of the chicano community in the US and the vindicative function of literature are faced with power relations in American culture at large.
