Imaginarios urbanos en la poesía de Nuevo Signo

Abstract

Los miembros del grupo literario que nació en Guatemala en 1968, conocido como Nuevo Signo, presentan varios elementos en común: casi todos pertenecen a la misma generación, casi todos provienen de la provincia y todos tienen el interés en reflexionar sobre el destino y la naturaleza del hombre guatemalteco. A pesar del origen foráneo, desde el interior de la República, todos se reúnen en la capital y allí estrechan relaciones de amistad y de intercambio intelectual. Desde allí reflexionan sobre las contradicciones de la modernidad del país, en la dinámica entre el centro y la periferia, las áreas urbanas y las aldeas rurales, la tradición y el progreso tecnológico. En esta ponencia me propongo una reflexión sobre la concepción de la modernidad en la poesía de Nuevo Signo, su significado en las dinámicas sociales de Guatemala y su papel en el contexto político de los años Sesenta y Setenta.
