In the wake of the shock caused by the jihadist movements, State authorities in the Islamic world are trying to bring the religious discourse again under their control by entrusting it to selected religious experts (ulama) and at the same time by promoting its reform. This contribution examines the reality and the limits of this institutionalization process, which is likely to continue in the years to come.
