Spanish-American literature translated into Chinese has occupied a relatively central position in the cultural polysystem in China, providing new resources and inspiring a whole generation of Chinese writers, who invented the Root-seeking literature and avant-garde literature in China. The translation and diffusion of Spanish-American literature in China, therefore, has become an object worthy of study. In this thesis, on the one hand, we proceed to examine the motivation of the phenomenon by analyzing the key changes taking part in the Chinese cultural field in 1980s; on the other hand, we try to examine incidence and rewrites of the boom in China. In the last place, we compare the reception of Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa and Julio Cortázar in China, to understand the literary and extra-literary elements that affect the diffusion of a foreign writer in the Asian country.
