Poemas para fado: alguns exemplos

Abstract

In this dissertation, after providing a concise overview of the origin and features of fado, we analyse a set of selected contemporary Portuguese poems which were either originally composed as fado lyrics or extensively performed by renowned fado singers. We thus seek to shed some light on some of the thematic and stylistic properties of poetic texts intended to be used in fado, discussing its specificity and, at the same time, reflecting on the interdependence of poetic and musical texts. Taking them as an example, we subsequently analyse some of the poems included in Vasco Graça Moura’s volume entitled Letras do fado vulgar.
