Afectividade e aprendizagem da leitura e da escrita

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to identify and understand the possible connections and interferences of affect that appear in the verbal interactions on the learning of reading and writing in the first grade. This dissertation is structured in three parts. The first one presents the theoretical basis for the development of this study, bearing in mind three essential themes: classroom communication, the learning of reading and writing and the relationship between affect and learning. The second part presents the investigation method used in this work: interpretative paradigm with a qualitative investigation towards an ethnographic approach in the building up, gathering and analysis of the two studied corpora. The third part describes, explains and analyses all the data assembled in the ten observed and transcript classes, focusing how affect is present in the teacher-pupil interaction, through evaluating marks, as well as assertiveness, agreeing and disagreeing, power sharing and total power, proximity and distance. All the marks of affect in the verbal, nonverbal and paraverbal language between teacher and pupil were analyzed, as well. The conclusions of the study show that affect plays its role in the way how the processes of writing and reading are taught, bearing in mind that the teacher’s behaviour towards the students is essential in the teaching-learning process.
