Fuego y hielo: representaciones de la Guerra Fría en la literatura costarricense

Abstract

La Guerra Fría se ha concebido tradicionalmente como un periodo de tensión geopolítica caracterizado por el conflicto ideológico entre Estados Unidos y la Unión Soviética. Sin embargo, el término "Guerra Fría" es incorrecto, ya que hubo numerosos enfrentamientos armados en diferentes partes del mundo. Mientras que en el imaginario popular se limita el análisis a los países de la OTAN, Hammond argumenta que en América, Asia y África se vivieron guerras civiles, golpes de Estado e insurrecciones durante la Guerra Fría. Los estudios literarios se convierten en un aliado importante para la historiografía, ya que la literatura ofrece representaciones que complementan los hechos históricos. El texto literario permite ordenar y registrar la realidad de manera diferente, generando efectos de identificación o extrañamiento. Este capítulo pretende aportar a los nuevos estudios sobre la Guerra Fría, examinando el impacto del conflicto en la región centroamericana, específicamente en Costa Rica, a través de la literatura nacional producida en ese periodo. Al combinar la historia con los estudios literarios, se logra una comprensión más completa de las representaciones del capitalismo y el socialismo, incluyendo las expresiones de violencia, represión, libertad, resistencia y paranoia.
