Abstract

En este trabajo se evalúa la utilidad de Frankliniella occidentalis como especie bioindicadora. El estudio consta de dos enfoques 1) los datos de la colección de Thysanoptera de Costa Rica sobre la presencia de esta especie y las localidades en que se halla y 2) de un estudio llevado a cabo durante 13 meses durante los años 2006-2007 en dos áreas del Jardín Botánico Lankester ubicado en la provincia de Cartago, Costa Rica una de bosque secundario maduro y otra de jardines. Se aplicaron pruebas estadísticas de χ2, Fisher y t para comparar los datos. Las diferencias entre los muestreos indican una alta significancia entre ambos tipos de sitios comparados, las áreas boscosas y las áreas perturbadas. La especie F. occidentalis en Costa Rica se halla fuertemente asociada a sistemas de alta perturbación por lo que puede ser de utilidad como boindicador de perturbación ambiental.

In this paper the usefulness of Frankliniella occidentalis as bioindicator species is evaluated. The study consists of two approaches 1) data collection of the Thysanoptera from Costa Rica on the presence of this species and the localities in which it is and 2) a study conducted over 13 months between year 2006-2007 in both areas of the Lankester Botanical Garden in Cartago, Costa Rica, mature secondary forest and gardens. χ2, Fisher and t statistical test were applied to compare the data. Differences among the samples indicate a high differences significance between the two types of areas compared, forested and disturbed. The species F. occidentalis in Costa Rica is strongly associated with high disturbance systems that may be useful as boindicador of environmental disturbance.
