El presente artículo aspira a ofrecer un resumen ordenado de una de las corrientes críticas más pujantes en el panorama de la teoría literaria actual, y especialmente en los Estados Unidos: el Nuevo Historicismo. Para ello trazo un recorrido sobre sus orígenes, débitos, principales representantes, puntos de intersección con otras corrientes, objetivos y presupuestos. Señalo también posibles campos de aplicación de este sistema, hasta ahora centrado casi exclusivamente en el teatro renacentista inglés, en obras pertenecientes a otros géneros y tradiciones (por ejemplo, en el cine norteamericano); planteo críticas que puedan surgir al hilo de las premisas neohistoricistas y aporto bibliografía fundamental sobre el tema.

This article seeks to offer a tidy summary of one of the strongest critical currents in the scene of the present literary theory, and specially in the USA: the New Historicism. For this, I describe its origins, debits, main followers, connection with other currents, objectives and premises. I also allude to possible ranges of application of this method, that was, until now, focused, nearly exclusively, on English Renaissance theatre, on plays belonging to other genres and traditions (for example, in North America cinema); I make some criticism to the newhistoricist ideas and I provide essential bibliography about the subject.
