Abstract

La crónica real castellana alcanzó en el siglo XV una madurez literaria que se manifiesta en el uso del estilo directo. No hay una evolución lineal, sino oscilaciones desde la rica pluralidad de voces de la crónica de Álvar García de Santa María, hasta la extrema selección de Barrientos, condicionadas por diversas estrategias propagandísticas. Enríquez del Castillo expresa la aspiración a la elocuencia propia de la historiografía humanística. Sólo con Fernando de Pulgar es asumida con plena conciencia la escritura humanística de la historia, mediante la imitatio de su modelo, Tito Livio. La elocuencia humanística devenía un medio para la exaltación de la monarquía de los Reyes Católico
