Abstract

In the short stories written by four members of the "Grupo de Guayaquil" there exists a clear unity which can be seen in their recurrence to personal characters and themes. This holds true also for the style where descriptive and narrative elements are combined with elements of the colloquial language of the three ethnical groups of Ecuador to which the described persons belong to. Similar stylistic elements can be found. The base for this similarity is found in the ambiences and natural sceneries which are used by the authors from Guayaquil as the background for their stories. The ability of Enrique Gil Gilbert to create collective sceneries or to describe the internal sensual impressions; the sensations and colours of the feelings expressed especially by Demetrio Aguilera Malta y Joaquin Gallegos Lara; the precise but perfect writer José de la Cuadra, the creator of the most interesting stories with regard to the formal level and the content as well, are analysed in the present study.
