En la primera mitad del siglo XVIII se llevó a cabo una amplia reestructuración del monasterio, que incluyó la reforma de la iglesia. Esta fue proyectada por Pablo Antonio Ruiz, maestro de obra de la catedral de Astorga, utilizando tanto elementos propios del barroco como otros sacados del repertorio gótico
