Instapoetry. Poesía en las redes sociales

Abstract

This dissertation aims to show ¿through the analysis of the Instagram profile of Rupi Kaur¿ the change that the emergence of social media entails in reading poetry. The minority place that poetry ¿and poets¿ has traditionally occupied in the literary market has been deeply affected by the arrival of a new kind of writer that takes advantage of social media affordances to publish their own poetry and become a media celebrity. Poetry, moving through the Internet, becomes a new subgenre: the so-called instapoetry. This new kind of poetry is a literary product easy to digest and accessible to millions of people through social media. Rupi Kaur represents this new kind of poet that combines the writer and the influencer, reaches a huge audience and becomes a media celebrity.
