Obesity is a pathology of growing importance in the world due to its high prevalence and its association with numerous comorbidities, including cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. It is characterized by excess body fat resulting from an imbalance between caloric intake and energy expenditure.
