Emisarios, espías y exiliados musulmanes en España (siglos XVI-XVII)

Abstract

A lo largo de la Historia, la política y la geoestrategia propiciaron que las dos orillas del Mediterráneo estuviesen mucho más cercanas de lo que indicaba el abismo religioso y cultural entre musulmanes y cristianos. Sin embargo, durante la Modernidad, las fronteras fueron mucho más fluidas, permeables y multidireccionales de lo que pensábamos, y más aún para aquellas personas que tenían identidades múltiples. Este capítulo versa sobre las legaciones diplomáticas magrebíes, pero también de los navegantes o comerciantes judíos o sefardíes, moriscos, renegados o exiliados que ejercieron de emisarios, espías y rescatadores de prisioneros al servicio de la Monarquía hispánica o de los poderes del Islam mediterráneo o asiático. Muchos de ellos actuaron de puentes entre ambos mundos, acercando (consciente o inconscientemente) dos civilizaciones en el momento más álgido de su enfrentamiento por el dominio militar y el ascendiente cultural.
