Abstract

This Master Thesis is intended to design, develop and deploy a multiplatform application for mobile devices. It will also cover other essential aspects of the development process such as the choice of business model, promotion of the application after being published, or positioning in the various app stores (App Store Optimization or ASO). The source code, which has been written in a multiplatform language such as C++, is shared almost entirely by the different deployment platforms. Only a few specific areas are treated individually at the platform level, fostering code reuse. As the development environment we have chosen a powerful tool highly valued by developers of applications for mobile devices: Marmalade SDK (multi-platform framework for application development in C++). Marmalade’s success is largely based on the great performance shown by the products built with it. On top of that, a large number of modules and extensions, which represent the technological basis that any current application may need, is available right from the beginning. The application aims to become a simulator of the NBA (American basketball league), allowing the user to create or join virtual leagues and make all the decisions on his team: lineup, signs, renewals, transfers, economy, draft, etc. Within each virtual league, different users will face his team against the rest, and the results will depend on the performance of the different players during the NBA season. Therefore, another important aspect of the application is the automated access and extraction of statistics from the NBA, as well as the integration of different databases, server scripts, push notifications and, of course, the client mobile application. En el presente Trabajo Fin de Máster se pretende diseñar, desarrollar y desplegar una aplicación multiplataforma cubriendo, además, otros aspectos también imprescindibles como pueden ser la elección del modelo de negocio, la promoción de la aplicación tras su publicación o el posicionamiento en las distintas tiendas de aplicaciones, también denominado posicionamiento ASO (App Store Optimization).

El código fuente, escrito en un lenguaje multiplataforma como es C++, es compartido prácticamente en su totalidad por las distintas plataformas de despliegue de la aplicación, siendo solo algunos aspectos puntuales los que se tratan de forma individualizada, fomentándose la reutilización de código. Como entorno de trabajo se ha escogido una potente herramienta muy valorada por desarrolladores de aplicaciones para dispositivos móviles como es Marmalade SDK (framework multiplataforma para desarrollo de aplicaciones en C++). Su éxito está basado en el rendimiento que ofrece, además de la gran cantidad de módulos y extensiones que representan la base tecnológica que cualquier aplicación actual pueda requerir. La aplicación que se ha decidido desarrollar pretende ser una simulación de la liga de baloncesto estadounidense NBA. Comunio NBA permite al usuario crear o unirse a ligas virtuales en las que deberá ponerse al frente de un equipo virtual y tomar todas las decisiones sobre el mismo: alineación, traspasos, renovaciones, fichajes, economía, draft, etc. Dentro de cada liga virtual, los diferentes usuarios verán enfrentarse a sus equipos contra los del resto. El resultado del enfrentamiento depende de las actuaciones de los jugadores en cada jornada de la NBA, y dará lugar a una clasificación virtual. Por tanto, otro aspecto importante de la aplicación será el acceso y extracción automatizados de estadísticas de la NBA, así como la integración de las distintas bases de datos, scripts del servidor, notificaciones push y, por supuesto, la aplicación cliente.
