Regarding studies on bandits and poor people in Roman society during the beginning of the Principate, the satirical novels comprise a very important corpus of evidence. The aim of this paper is to focus on Petronius’ Satyricon and Apuleius’ Metamorphosis to discuss banditry in Roman society. I shall also discuss how literature can provide new insights to rethink marginalized masculinities in Roman society.
