Constatando la importante influencia que el modelo pedagógico espartano ha ejercido a lo largo de la historia de la educación, los autores rastrean las huellas de esta ascendencia en tres momentos históricos: en la filosofía platónica, en la teoría política de Rousseau y en el estatalismo jacobino de la Revolución Francesa. De conformidad con el ejemplo de una austera e idealizada Esparta, cuajará en cada uno de los momentos históricos referidos la idea de celebrar fiestas públicas de marcado carácter cívico y social con manifestaciones gimnásticas y deportivas. De esta manera las fiestas gimnásticas al aire libre también serán un magnífico instrumento para la educación político-social del pueblo.
The autors have studied the important influence which the Spartan educational model has had in the long history of education, they have traced this development in three historical moments: in Platonic philosophy, in the political theories of Rousseau and in Jacobin period during the French Revolution. The austere and idealised Sparta, which was established in each of the previously mentioned historical eras, the idea of celebrating public festivals, with a distinct civil and social character with gimnastic displays are a magnificiant tool for socialising and politically education the general public.
