Canarias en el sistema defensivo imperial hispano, 1762-1802

Abstract

La tesis analiza el sistema militar defensivo canario en el periodo comprendido entre 1762 y 1802 dentro de la corriente historiográfica denominada estado fiscal-militar. En este sentido, se analiza cómo el Estado borbónico articuló la defensa de Canarias, destinando recursos financieros y militares. Es objeto de estudio los planes de defensa de los comandantes generales, la defensa naval, las fortificaciones, el ejército del rey (Ejército de África, Ejército de Refuerzo, levas) y las milicias. Todo ello produjo una serie de cambios militares, económicos, políticos y sociales a cambio de garantizar la seguridad en un territorio alejado de la metrópoli y constantemente amenazado por Gran Bretaña.
