Biomecánica corneal y lentes de contacto

Abstract

La Biomecánica Corneal es una disciplina científica que está cobrando protagonismo en la clínica oftalmológica, y que pronto llegará a ser una herramienta imprescindible para la caracterización de la córnea sana o enferma. Gracias al desarrollo de esta ciencia, podremos llegar a crear modelos de comportamiento corneal y predecir la respuesta dinámica de la córnea, en condiciones fisiológicas y patológicas. Sus posibles aplicaciones prácticas engloban desde el diagnóstico y valoración de determinadas patologías oculares, hasta la predicción de respuesta ante procedimientos quirúrgicos corneales como la cirugía incisional y refractiva, pasando por aquellas actuaciones que intentan proporcionar a la córnea un refuerzo estructural, como la cirugía aditiva con segmentos intraestromales y el cross-linking corneal.
