Mecenazgo artístico del primer vizconde de Chelva

Abstract

Tras unas breves consideraciones sobre la importancia y significación del mecenazgo en la génesis y elaboración de muchas obras de carácter artístico realmente prócer, el presente artículo aborda el interés, particularidades estilísticas y significación iconográfica de dos retablos de estilo italogótico datables en las últimas décadas del siglo XIV procedentes, uno, probablemente, del oratorio del palacio señorial de Chelva y, el otro, acaso, de una capilla del convento de franciscanos de dicha población, espacios arquitectónicos acerca de cuyas particularidades, vicisitudes históricas, características arquitectónicas, etc., se dedica especial atención, espacios ambos fundados y construidos gracias a la munificencia de En Pere Lladró de Vilanova, vizconde de Chelva desde 1390. A él se debe también la edificación del grandioso y desaparecido palacio de la calle de Caballeros, sede en Valencia de sus sucesores en el título hasta que éste paso, al morir sin descendencia masculina (y sin nietos de sus dos hijas) Don Gaspar Lladró y de Pallás, XI vizconde de Chelva y de Vilanova, casado en 1644 con Doña María de Silva, a la casa ducal de Villahermosa.
