El sistema casual latino codifica las relaciones que se dan entre los constituyentes de un enunciado. El sistema casual será la proyección en el discurso del sistema de comunicación. La función que en un acto de comunicación hace el receptor de un mensaje, la introduce en el enunciado el caso Dativo. Comparte con el Nominativo (emisor) y Acusativo (mensaje) un mismo nivel de intimidad en su relación con el verbo. Por eso estos tres casos y no otros son susceptibles de llevar un complemento predicativo. El dativo de finalidad, aun cuando aparezca en solitario, es un complemento predicativo de un dativo de interés no explícito.

The Latin case system codifies whatever relationships among the costituent elements of any sentence. The case system will be the projection within the discourse of this communication system. The function performed by the receptor of the message is represented within the sentence by the Dative case. This case share with the Nominative (emisor) and Acusative (message) the same level of intimacy towards the relationship they have with the governing verb. For this reason any cases but this three can be modified by a predicative complement.
