Intervención psicoeducativa en la enfermedad de Huntington infantil

Abstract

Se describen los síntomas asociados a la Enfermedad de Huntington Juvenil, las necesidades educativas especiales, y la respuesta educativa adecuada a estas necesidades. Los síntomas afectan a la motricidad, a la cognición, a las emociones y al comportamiento, y producen múltiples discapacidades al estar relacionados y empeorar con el tiempo; asimismo, presentan desafíos únicos a los individuos afectados, a las personas que los cuidan y a los diferentes profesionales que los atienden. Las necesidades educativas especiales abarcan a la mayoría de las áreas curriculares y cambian en función del desarrollo y las fases de la enfermedad. Para dar una respuesta educativa adecuada es necesario realizar adaptaciones curriculares de acceso (a la comunicación, ayudas técnicas, profesionales de apoyo¿) e individualizadas, y organizar y coordinar los recursos disponibles en el sistema educativo, en el sanitario, en las asociaciones y en la familia. Sin embargo, aunque la Enfermedad de Huntington Juvenil es rara, muchos de los retos diarios son similares a los de niños que tienen otros trastornos o discapacidades. Esperamos ayudar a escuelas y asociaciones a tener una mejor comprensión de la variante juvenil de la Enfermedad de Huntington para que puedan ser capaces de apoyar y orientar al alumno afectado y a sus familias.
