Empleo informal y precariedad laboral: las empleadas de hogar

Abstract

El análisis del empleo informal se aborda en el artículo desde una óptica más relacionada con la precariedad laboral que con la tradicional aproximación a la economía sumergida. Se basa en un estudio realizado sobre las condiciones de vida y trabajo de las empleadas de hogar residentes en el barrio de Nazaret, zona periférica de la ciudad de València. Se parte de una caracterización del empleo informal y sus lógicas explicativas, situando el empleo del hogar en dicha órbita como actividad que se desarrolla relativamente al margen de la insuficiente regulación legal y en condiciones de alta precariedad laboral. A continuación se exponen los principales rasgos de esta forma de empleo captados en el estudio de campo: vinculación con las redes sociales del barrio, normas informales, condiciones de trabajo, salarios y trayectorias laborales. Por último, se enmarca esta actividad en las estrategias familiares y se plantean algunas propuestas de cara a mejorar la situación laboral y social de las empleadas de hogar.
