Redes de publicaciones científicas: un análisis de la estructura de coautorias

Abstract

¿ Cómo aprenden los científicos? ¿ Cómo colaboran? ¿Es posible identificar la estructura de influencias que se produce en un campo de investigación? Éstas eran las preguntas que animaron la investigación que realizamos durante el año 2001. Desde entonces, las aplicaciones del análisis de redes sociales al establecimiento de la estructura de la colaboración científica se han desarrollado rápidamente. Este interés se debe en gran parte a la incorporación de físicos, n1atemáticos y otros investigadores y académicos procedentes de las «ciencias duras>> a las ciencias sociales. Si bien esta tendencia es general, en el campo del análisis de redes sociales esta contribución es especialmente relevante (1). Efectivamente, el carácter formal de la aproximación y la existencia de inmensas bases de datos disponibles (bibliografía, enlaces de páginas vveb y actores de cine, entre muchas otras) propiciaron la comparación de redes «sociales>> y otros tipos de redes, como las redes tróficas, de líneas de alta tensión o las redes de ordenadores. Todas ellas manifiestan las mismas propiedades, o, mejor dicho, manifiestan la misma propiedad: la de un "Mundo Pequeño".
