Abstract

Introducción. El uso de cigarro electrónico presenta un aumento en varios países del mundo, debido principalmente a la popularidad que tienen estos dispositivos electrónicos. Objetivo. Identificar la relación entre la percepción del riesgo y el uso del cigarro electrónico. Método. La muestra de estudio fue de 285 jóvenes universitarios y se utilizó un muestreo estratificado aleatorio. Resultados. Se presentaron diferencias en la percepción de riesgo en los consumidores y no consumidores de cigarros electrónicos, así mismo se presentó relación entre la percepción del riesgo y el uso del cigarro electrónico (p < .005). Discusión y conclusiones. Los hallazgos pueden deberse a que los consumidores de cigarros electrónicos mantienen ideas y expectativas favorables sobre el uso del cigarro electrónico. Los resultados del estudio representan una oportunidad para el profesional de enfermería para abordar el fenómeno del cigarro electrónico y contribuir en el fortalecimiento del conocimiento sobre esta modalidad actual de consumo de nicotina.
