Abstract

ABSTARCT: This article outlines some conceptualizations on the relevance of life together and citizenship education in higher education.Similarly, it presents some reflections on the role of values and regulations, as a way to promote their implementation in higher education, as part of the preliminary theoretical constructions performed as part of the research project “Citizenship Observatory in Antioquia's Higher Education —the case of Universidad de Antioquia—."Our goal is to analyze why, even with common regulations and values, as well as the recognition of the role of teachers and students, there is a diversity of ways of coexistence due to the various subjects, intentions, expressions, and representations of institutional regulations meant to control social interactions and life together. We assume therefore that life together is a permanent construction of social interactions. Consequently, when higher education institutions favor formal regulations in order to establish modes of coexistence, the subjects are overlooked, thus producing a set of emotions, sensations, and conflicts that would eventually burst, possibly in violent ways, thus interfering with the subjects' legitimate recognition of themselves as a community
