RESUMEN: En este artículo se pretende analizar cómo desde la narrativa de Alejo Carpentier se lleva a cabo una reflexión en torno a la búsqueda de la configuración de proyectos identitarios latinoamericanos, los cuales se alejan de movimientos de vanguardia europeos. Para ello se analiza, en primer lugar, el encuentro de Carpentier con el movimiento surrealista francés, del cual se reivindica la libertad de los juegos de la infancia, la locura y el valor del pensamiento onírico; en segundo lugar, se expone la razón de ser de la toma de distancia del autor frente a dicha corriente estética y, en tercer lugar, se analiza el sentido de la apuesta por lo real maravilloso, que reivindica la dignidad cultural del arte del “nuevo mundo”.

ABSTRACT: This article aims to analyze how the narrative from Alejo Carpentier performs a reflection about the search for American identity project configuration, which moves away from European art. We examine, first, Carpentier's encounter with the French surrealist movement, which claimed the freedom of childhood games, madness and the value of dream thought, secondly, the reason is exposed be taking away the author against this current aesthetic and, thirdly, we analyze the effect of the marvelous real commitment, claiming cultural dignity of art "new world"
