ABSTRACT: The list of mosses in Antioquia, which is presented here, is the result of research of a very diverse nature, in fact, since the 19th century bryological works have been known in South America that partially include the country (Colombia) and / or the department ( Antioquia) or its surroundings (Mitten 1869), or only to Colombia (Hampe 1865a, b, 1866, 1869; Müller 1874, 1875), or Central and South America (Bescherelle 1894), as well as works for more localized regions such as Bogotá ( Theriot 1906). Historically, these works had as a priority the search for new species for science, carried out within the framework of inventories for the geographical areas in question (Williams 1925, 1930; Irmscher 1914, Theriot 1937, 1939; Herzog 1934). At present, the most recent and pertinent works on the Antioquia list of mosses are those specifically focused on a list of Colombian bryophytes (Robinson 1967) and later on the Colombian mosses (Flortschütz de Waard & Florschütz 1979, Churchill 1988a, 1989, Churchill & Linares 1995). Finally, those focused on the moss flora of departments such as Valle del Cauca (Churchill & Hollaender 1988) and Antioquia (Churchill & Sastre de Jesus 1987; Sastre de Jesús et al. 1987; Churchill 1991a), and even those referred to inventories of areas more localized within the same department (Albert de Escobar 1989; Parra et al. 1999)
