Abstract

RESUMEN: La identificación y uso de los metabolitos secundarios de las plantas es un área de investigación con gran proyección para reducir la metanogénesis ruminal. Las plantas con propiedades antimetanogénicas se convierten en una alternativa de mitigación de metano entérico viable para países y regiones donde la actividad ganadera sea a base de pastoreo como es el caso de las sabanas inundables de la Orinoquía Colombiana. Por esta razón, el objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar el potencial antimetanogénico in vitro y la composición fitoquímica de plantas de la sabana inundable adaptadas a condiciones de sequía. A través de la técnica de producción de gases se evalúo la adición de cinco plantas (A. peruviana, B. nemorosa, B. virgilioides, C. americana y S. multijuga) a una dieta base (Axonopus purpussi 60% + Paratheria prostrata 40%) y su efecto sobre la producción de gas, metano y degradación de la materia seca a las 12, 24 y 48h. Las plantas evaluadas no generaron cambios en la producción de metano a través del tiempo, pero incrementaron el volumen de producción de gas de la dieta. La especie A. peruviana aumentó la digestibilidad mientras que B. virgilioides promovió una mayor síntesis de proteína microbiana. Se encontró la presencia de alcaloides, esteroides y triterpenoides, flavonoides, saponinas y taninos en todas las plantas evaluadas, a excepción de B. nemorosa que no presentó saponinas. Se recomienda la realización de otros estudios para caracterizar el potencial antimetanogénico de las plantas evaluadas de manera individual, y cuantificar los metabolitos secundarios encontrados.

ABSTRACT: The identification and use of plants secondary metabolites is a research area with great projection for reducing ruminal methanogenesis. Plants with antimethanogenic properties becomes a feasible mitigation alternative of enteric methane for countries and regions where livestock activity is based on grazing like the case of the floodable savannas in the Colombian Orinoco. Therefore, the aim of this study was to characterize the in vitro antimethanogenic potential and phytochemical composition of floodable savanna plants adapted to drought conditions. Using the gas production technique it was evaluated the addition of five plants (A. peruviana, B. nemorosa, B. virgilioides, C. americana y S. multijuga) to a basal diet (Axonopus purpussi 60% + Paratheria prostrata 40%) and their effects on gas production, methane and dry matter degradation at 12, 24 and 48h were recorded. The evaluated plants did not produce changes in methane production across the time; however they increased the volume of gas production from the diet. The specie A. peruviana increased digestibility while B. virgilioides promoted greater microbial protein synthesis. It was found the presence of alkaloids, steroids and triterpenoids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins, in all the evaluated plants, except B. Nemorosa that not presented saponins. Further studies are required to characterize the antimethanogenic potential of the evaluated plants individually, and to quantify the secondary metabolites found.
