Abstract

The development of multilingual terminology resources is important for translators and specialists in a globalised world. That is the reason why degrees in Translation and Interpreting include terminology. Terminology resources are currently more sophisticated than mere glossaries. We can create tools to allow access to specialised knowledge in a multimodal way (with visual resources: image, concept map, thesaurus) so that we can navigate from the idea to the word or from the word to the idea. In this chapter we will present a design of a bilingual French-Spanish terminology database oriented to the concept or knowledge base of Cheese (QuesoTerm). Due to its structure, this type of database allows precisely to show the relations between terms, that is, to visualise the conceptual system. It allows to represent knowledge, its understanding and its learning, so that the results of translation tasks improve. Our methodology will follow: (a) a pragmatic approach of terminology, specialized texts and terminography (Cabré, 1993, 1998) and (b) a socio-pragmatic approach (Temmerman, 2000) as we will take into account the evolution of terms
