Abstract

Esta estampa forma pareja con otra de las mismas dimensiones y técnica mostrando una Cacería de oso y ciervos (Bartsch XVII.170.1163). Ambas presentan varias escalas, tratando de articular los diferentes planos en que transcurre la acción. Así, los personajes que aparecen en el margen derecho de nuestra estampa (una dama sentada a la sombra de un árbol, a quien un caballero sostiene la mano mientras le invita a mirar a un joven que se aproxima a ellos portando un ciervo muerto) implican, por su mayor escala, más proximidad al espectador y resaltan su posición jerárquica en la composición. La mujer es la protagonista de este grupo principal: a ella dirige sus atenciones el caballero que toma su mano, mientras un criado la protege del sol y un cazador se acerca a traerle más piezas cobradas en la jornada, que se unirán al ciervo y jabalí ya muertos a sus pies. Delante del grupo, mirando fijamente al espectador, un hombre aparece sentado en el suelo junto a tres perros. El río que aparece en el centro de la estampa separa a estos personajes del resto de la escena, donde encontramos diversos momentos de la caza del ciervo y del jabalí, y donde la reducción progresiva de escalas refuerza la sensación de lejanía
