Pedro Atanasio Bocanegra, un pintor aprovechado

Authors: Contreras Guerrero, Adrián;

Pedro Atanasio Bocanegra, un pintor aprovechado

Abstract

In spite of the misgivings of the treatise, the baroque artists frequently resorted to engravings to compose their works. In the case of Pedro Atanasio Bocanegra, these engravings reduced his deficiencies in the field of drawing, a weakness that Palomino reproached him through various biographical anecdotes. In the study follows we analyze the graphic sources used by the grenadian painter discovering how Alonso Cano’s inescapable heritage is mixed with copies, plagiarism and more or less free inspiration from Italian and Flemish prints. In short, what we propose is a journey into the Bocanegra workshop, and, in general, to the way composing of the painters of the moment.
