Abstract

ABSTRACT: This project is part of a broader and more ambitious project that aims to compile the main traditions and customs of northern Extremadura, using co- mics and illustration as a vehicle for its achievement. Specifically, the object of this study focuses on the “Jarramplas” festival, a festival that is celebrated on January 19 and 20, in the village of Piornal and which has been declared of National Tourist Interest. The main intention pursued with the creation of this graphic novel lies in the implementation of the knowledge acquired in the Master’s degree in Drawing-Illustration, Comic and Audiovisual Creation carried out during the 2023/2024 academic year, at the University of Fine Arts. of Granada, using as fundamental tools the investigation of the chosen tradition, its theoretical deve- lopment and its materialization in less classical and more innovative media. Starting from the chosen central theme, the study at hand also attempts to delve deeper into the necessary requirements to carry out the creation and development of a graphic novel of an eminently experimental nature, in which, using the leporello format, it is achieved a multilinear narrative, with hardly any text. This is intended to boost not only the reader’s own imagination, which, at times, must intuit the conversations held between the different characters, but also to achieve a greater and better knowledge of our roots, by addressing the set of traditions in an entertaining way. and customs that are part of our cultural heritage.
