Abstract

Roman window glass in Hispania Baetica has been studied in this Doctoral Thesis. The main aim of this thesis is to fill the gap in scientific research on this type of glass in this province of Roman Hispania. The following archaeological sites were selected, due to their possibilities of study for this type of glass: Cortalago, Acinipo, Astigi, baths of Herrera, Torreparedones and colonia Patricia Corduba. A total set of 918 window glass fragments was studied, which has confirmed the wide presence of glass window enclosures in the Roman architecture of Baetica. The context analysis of the different findings indicated that these windowpanes were used in Baetica either in public (baths or curias) or private buildings, as well as in urban and rural areas. In Córdoba, for example, its use is evidenced from 1st to the 5th centuries AD.
