Abstract

As we can see in the title: the Vega de Granada in the transit from the Nasrid Kingdom to the Kingdom of Granada: Political, economic and social changes. We have analyzed a specific geographic space. During the historical process which not only meant the disappearance of the last Islamic emirate in the Western Mediterranean, but also marked the end of the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula. Transit periods are always complex, especially if we consider that after the Castilian conquest two societies with completely different cultural, ideological and religious traits coexisted in the same place, producing ruptures and continuities in some of these elements. In this sense, this period opens the door to a wide scope of research opportunities, for it makes possible to study political and socioeconomic issues, mostly from the documentation generated by the conquerors. La Vega de Granada, the region subject of our study, is a vast and fertile region that was heavily populated throughout the Middle Ages. Despite the fact that the central theme of this Doctoral Thesis focus on the last years of the Nasrid Kingdom and the beginning of the Castilian domination. We have diachronically analyzed the evolution of the settlement of the area, since many of the nuclei studied were there well before. In the same way, all the alquerias for which information is available have been analyzed in detail. We have prepared a summary that offers a description of each place, the sources in which they are mentioned, the relevant historical events that occurred there, its urban structure, their main infrastructures, data on the crops and the inhabitants of the nuclei that were collected in the books of habices (1503 and 1505).
