El presente artículo es una propuesta de tesis que se encuentra en su fase inicial, cuyo foco de interés está en la coordinación pedagógica a nivel tanto horizontal como vertical, promovido por los jefes de departamento y el Equipo Técnico de Coordinación Pedagógica, en centros públicos de educación secundaria. Con esta investigación se pretende profundizar en la figura del jefe del departamento como líder potencial de los institutos, identificando su papel clave en la coordinación acontecida en los centros, y como motor indispensable para el cambio y la mejora educativa.

The present article is a thesis proposal, which is in its initial phase. It is focused in the pedagogical coordination to both horizontal and vertical level, which it is promoted by Department chairs and Technical Team of Pedagogical Coordination in public Secondary Schools. This research aims to deepen the figure of the head of the department as a potential leader in the Secondary Schools, identifying their key role in coordinating occurred in the centers, and as an indispensable engine for change and school improvement.
