El Obispado de Almería tras su incorporación a la Corona de Castilla

Abstract

Pretendemos en estas páginas aportar algunos datos basados en la documentación que se conserva en el Archivo Ducal de Medina Sidonia referente al marquesado de los Vélez. En primer lugar echaremos una ojeada a la formación y dotación de este obispado, a sus problemas económicos y a la ayuda que recibió de los monarcas. Finalmente nos detendremos en el análisis de los conflictos que se suscitaron entre el Obispo y el marqués de Vélez por la percepción de las tercias, pues las villas y lugares del señorío de los Fajardo se hallaban en estrecha dependencia eclesiástica del clero almeriense. Confusiones, deficiente organización, pobreza y conflictos jalonan el alumbramiento y el acontecer de este Obispado, cuya documentación completa podría despejar quizá, todas sus incógnitas. Aquí sólo aludiremos a unos hechos muy concretos que conocemos con seguridad.
