In this paper, I approach, from the perspective of feminist aesthetics and art theory, the possible rehabilitation of beauty, particularly in contemporary visual art. What I aim to put forward, then, are some of the fundamental reasons that have led to a rethinking of a value that was once central—indeed, even defining—for art in earlier periods, but which has come to be denigrated not only within the artistic sphere but also in contemporary culture more broadly, for various reasons, mostly of a political-moral nature, including, in a particularly relevant way, objections raised from a feminist perspective.
