Funciones cognitivas en personas con altas capacidades intelectuales

Abstract

De acuerdo con el modelo de las funciones ejecutivas (FE) de Miyake y Friedman (Miyake et al., 2000; Miyake y Friedman, 2012), uno de los más extendidos actualmente con respecto a la delimitación de las FE, las FE se pueden clasificar entre tres funciones fundamentales: inhibición, actualización y flexibilidad. La inhibición es la capacidad que las personas tienen para suprimir aquella información que es irrelevante o una conducta que es prepotente o automática pero no apropiada. La actualización se correspondería con la memoria de trabajo y englobaría toda actividad relacionada con manipular la información activa en la mente. Por último, la flexibilidad hace referencia a habilidades como alternar entre dos reglas o reaccionar ante cambios y ajustarse adecuadamente. Como se mencionaba anteriormente, las FE se han relacionado muy frecuentemente con el nivel de inteligencia de las persones de manera que en general, un mayor desarrollo de las FE se asocia a un mayor cociente intelectual (i. e. Ren et al., 2017).
