Abstract

Joseph-Claude Vernet, uno de los pintores más destacados de la Francia del siglo XVIII, presentó en 1774 una obra emblemática que ocupa la portada de este número 50 de la revista, La Construction d’un grand chemin. Este lienzo, que actualmente se conserva en el Museo del Louvre, no solo es un logro artístico, sino también un testimonio profundo del proceso de transformación de Europa en una era marcada por la centralización estatal y las políticas de mejora de infraestructuras. Encargada en 1769 por el entonces Controlador General de Finanzas francés, el padre Terray, esta obra visualiza la creciente preocupación del Estado por consolidar y mejorar las vías de comunicación, una preocupación que revela los esfuerzos por domesticar el territorio.
