Anti-fatalismo

Abstract

“É fatal como o destino”, diz o ditado, tantas vezes repetido. Há certamente, na cultura popular uma tendência para algum modo de fatalismo, que se traduz na crença na vacuidade da acção humana. Fatalismo, do latim "fatum", fado, fica na vizinhança de não aleatório, “destino” fixado, apelando à passividade e liga-se à crença ou aceitação de um poder ou lei superior a que não é possível escapar - os acontecimentos ocorrem de modo imutável, não controlado ou influenciado pela vontade humana (fatalismo ao longo de Os Maias, de Eça de Queirós, por exemplo). Fatalismo refere-se, pois, a algo previamente determinado, pelo que, não sendo comummente considerado como equivalente a determinismo, tem sido por alguns encarado até como mais geral: já que o fatalismo considera que toda a ação humana é causada por eventos anteriores e não pelo exercício da vontade - ou seja, considera impossíveis acontecimentos “não-causados” por necessidade - então o determinismo seria uma forma de fatalismo, um fatalismo “físico”, em que o futuro é fixado pelas leis da natureza, que governam o nosso universo “físico”. Mais adiante veremos outros modos de pensar e associar fatalismo e determinismo.
