Abstract

In this study we used Rui Campos’s (2013) definition of Depressive Personality, operated through ITD (Rui Campos, 2015). In the perspective of this author the depressive phenomenon can be understood as a spectrum. Which means, there is continuity between normality and pathology and the characteristics of depressed individuals may also be present in people who are not clinically depressed. The objective of the present study was to study the relationship between the Depressive Personality, as well as the dimensions that compose it (ITD) and the personality traits, operated by NEO-FFI (Pedroso-Lima, et al. 2014). This relationship has already been studied in previous investigations. The novelty of the present study is to use ITD, which has not been used in previous investigations. The ITD was studied in relation to other instruments but not in relation to NEO-FFI. A total of 333 subjects aged 18 years or over participated in this study. Although ITD presents a more comprehensive approach, the results of this study are consistent with previous investigations. For ITD-Total the traits that show the most impact are Neuroticism, Extroversion and Conscientiousness. At the level of the dimensions for Essential Depression, Neuroticism, Extroversion and Agreeableness. In the Inhibited Depression it points like traces Neuroticism, Extroversion and Conscientiousness. In Depression of Failure the traits are Neuroticism and Conscientiousness. In the Depression of Perfectionists and Relational Depression only Neuroticism relates. The correlations between ITD dimensions suggest that they are not independent from each other. However, different patterns are observed between the dimensions and the personality traits, which suggests that although there are common aspects, the dimensions are different.
