Dioniso e Dionisio I

Abstract

Saggio inserito all'interno del catalogo della mostra "Dionysos. Mito immagine teatro" (Siracusa 2012). Si analizzano le testimonianze letterarie che rinviano ad una presumibile assimilazione del tiranno di Siracusa, Dionisio I, al dio Dioniso, ad opera degli intellettuali che facevano parte dell'entourage del tiranno (Filisto). Tale assimilazione era finalizzata a giustificare e a legittimare il potere assoluto e "anomico" di Dionisio I, presentandolo come un potere monarchico fondato sul consenso popolare e teso a ristabilire la concordia e la pace tra i sudditi, secondo una prassi che precorre la propaganda filo-monarchica promossa dai sovrani di età ellenistica (e in primo luogo i Tolemei e gli Attalidi di Pergamo).
