Abstract

Dopo la rivolta del Vespro e l'arrivo degli Aragonesi, Agrigento assume una chiara fisionomia sociale. Nel Trecento i Chiaromonte controllano la giustizia, l'amministrazione e le finanze, fondano chiese, monasteri, ospedali e imprimono alla città un inconfondibile stile architettonico. Nella prima metà del Quattrocento il tessuto urbano subisce un profondo stato di abbandono e la città è lacerata da lotte di fazione e insanabili contrasti.
