Consequências psicológicas do desemprego

Abstract

This study main goal is to understand how unemployment affects people psychologically, what impact it has on their lives and how it affects the relationship with others and with themselves. The population used in this study was 263 unemployed, aged between 18 and 58, in a randomly collected sample. To perform this study we related the following variables - Anxiety and Depression, Hopelessness, Life satisfaction, Self-esteem and Social Support, using the following assessment battery HADS - Snaith & Zigmond, 1983; BHS - Beck 1974; SWLS – Diener et al 1985; SSRS - Rosenberg 1965; SSQ6 – Sarason et et al. 1983. The results demonstrated that longer time unemployed individuals have higher levels of hopelessness, anxiety and depression as well as reduced values of satisfaction with life. According to the results we can also say that there is a significant relation between Social Support and Satisfaction with Life.
