Flos desertum: La evolución del Flos Sanctorum en España en el caso de san Antonio Abad (ss. XVI-XVIII)

Abstract

El presente trabajo se propone realizar un análisis interpretativo en torno al fenómeno de la santidad en la literatura de la España moderna y su evolución desde el Medievo a la Modernidad. Para ello, hemos estudiado los precedentes de la tradición hagiográfica, desde los tiempos del cristianismo primitivo, hasta los antecedentes medievales manuscritos de la Legenda Aurea, y cómo el género de las vidas de santos se multiplica gracias a la labor de la imprenta. Para nuestro estudio, recurrimos a las fuentes de la época (los Flos Sanctorum y algunas vidas individua- les) para estudiar el caso concreto de la figura de san Antonio Abad, desde el siglo IV al siglo XVIII. Hemos hecho un análisis de las fuentes a la luz de investigaciones recientes, llegando así a comprender el fenómeno dentro del contexto religioso y social de los siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII, y comprendiendo también cómo las vidas de santos fueron adaptándose a los gustos del público y a las exigencias del poder terrenal de la Iglesia Católica.
