O Estilo Nacional Português em Minas Gerais: Povoamento e territorialização do Barroco em Minas Gerais no primeiro quartel do século XVIII

Abstract

O retábulo do Estilo Nacional Português foi alcunhado por Robert Smith em célebre livro sobre a talha em Portugal. Em Minas é possível encontrar traços deste estilo em raríssimas peças de fins do XVII. No século XVIII, em especial até 1725, o uso destas estruturas se tornaria comum. O Nacional Português nas Minas marca o berço de uma fervilhante produção plástica, nos legando obras de inestimável valor. Todavia, desde as tentativas de sistematizar nossos retábulos feitas por Germain Bazin e Lúcio Costa, o interesse pelo Nacional Português praticamente se estagnou no Brasil. Tendo isso em vista, elaboramos um estudo sistemático de retábulos desta tipologia, com abordagens estilísticas e iconográficas, propondo escolas ou oficinas atuantes entre Portugal, Minas Gerais e São Paulo no início do século XVIII. Nesse artigo, devido ao espaço limitado, daremos especial enfoque às possíveis rotas de entrada dos entalhadores nas minas recém descobertas, seus deslocamentos e a repetição ou adaptação de padrões morfológicos. Esse tipo de estudo nos auxiliará a dar nova abordagem sobre os primórdios da História de Minas Gerais, lançando mão desses retábulos, até agora tão pouco estudados. Área de Historia del Arte, UPO
